Sample Selection Guidelines

Use the following specifications as a starting point when selecting a sample for Splicer:

  • Choose a sample that resonates in some way with space and/or time.
  • Ideally, the sample should be a three-dimensional object.
  • Flat, two-dimensional objects are generally less suitable.
  • Very dark, very glossy, or dark and glossy surfaces can be challenging to capture accurately.

These considerations help ensure optimal results during imaging and reconstruction.

If you are unsure whether your sample is suitable, check with splicer operator.

Type Description
Relation The relational value of the object is the most important selection criterion. Any type of relationship is valid, what matters is the depth or intensity of your connection. The object may carry a personal story, whether uplifting or difficult. It could be something you've created, use in your work, cherish, or even strongly dislike. The more meaningful the connection, the more suitable the object is for this project.
Size Ideal: 150 × 150 × 150 mm (L × W × H). Supported: 30 × 30 × 30 mm to 250 × 250 × 500 mm. If near the limits, consult the Splicer operator to confirm compatibility.
Color Any color is generally supported. However, neon and other special or highly reflective colors may not be accurately captured and may not appear as expected in the final image.
Surface and Materiality Supports matte, glossy, or transparent surfaces. Ideally, the sample includes interesting textures, partial transparency or translucency, and protruding three-dimensional features, which can create visually engaging overlaps.
Value Avoid using highly valuable or irreplaceable objects. Under normal conditions, the sample is not damaged during the sampling process. However, if the material is sensitive to light or heat, consult the Splicer operator. The sample may become warm due to exposure to bright illumination.
Copyright As the object will be photographed and potentially shown publicly, you must have the rights to display it. Do not submit confidential or restricted items, such as undisclosed prototypes from your workplace ;)
